das letzte Quiz

Ich habe morgen die letzte Deutschstunde und das letzte Wortschatz Quiz
am Donnerstag, der Endtest
here the last words i have to learn
to end Kapitel 11 (elf)

and even though I won't miss
being out of my house
jeden Dienstag und Donnerstag um 8 Uhr und zurück um 20 Uhr...

i will indeed miss Frau Wrasidlo
and her marvelous lectures
always so throughly and efficient
again and again over the primary and secondary endings
over the strange word order in German sentences
and always highlights her classes with some German
cultural tidbits, comments over German idiosyncrasies
and some Berliners anecdotes...
indeed the best
'foreign Language' professor I ever had
and once of the best professors overall
of my whole career

sie ist eine fantastische Frau!
as you can read here in a couple of
students reviews

and what a treat when one finds a good professor
like Frau Barbara Wrasidlo
one of those who change one's life
because, yes, one can learn from books
from life, and even from the internet
but nothing like getting knowledge on the place
where knowledge was meant to be imparted
on a public school...
ah! i am pretty lucky to be an adult student
now that learning is not a duty
but a pleasure...
although i still complain while doing
Hausaufgabe and repeating

i consider myself pretty lucky
of have learned a little of German
such a schweres Sprache!

and even if i am too far from knowing the language well
at least i feel safe now to go to Germany
and say one of the most common phrases
in any language

ich möchte etwas zu essen
i would like something to eat
me gustaría algo de comer

oh what one does for love,
even learning Deutsch...

und etwas lieber
straight from Germany
Lieber Gruß!

strange day/keine Deutschstunde

i went to work early today.
'cause i had class later.
but i got up too too early.
so i got too sleepy.
and that allergy pill.

and on the way to work.
i took this picture.
properties file:
Today, April 08, 2008, 8:02:26 AM

so. after all.
i didn't make it to class.
i feel guilty.
i know i shouldn't.
but i feel the guilt.
that one of the lazy student.
faul, langweilig Studentin.
but i came early(ish) home.
and been doing nothing interesting
since then.

this morning's menacing sky.
should've been a warning.
a cold day it was.
still is.
12° below the average
temperature for this time
of the year.
that might explain.
why.
what?

Oktoberfest - the California version

as part of meinen Deutschstunde
ich gehe heute Abend zu Oktoberfest
the one in El Cajon, this little town
vecinity of San Diego

ich trinke Warstein Pilsener
i have this theory that if i drink
plenty of German beer
meine Deutsch will improve

but funny
'cause when i came home
i wanted another beer
and i had some Guinness Draught
those cans that have a little ball
to draft the beer nicely

so i assume Guinness improves my English
yet not my German
so i guess at the end of the day
and so much beer, i am back to
Hablar en Español

y sí despues de todo
es mejor
decir buenas noches
así, con en tu mano,
todo el corazón

so i haven't had a chance
to get these nopales pictures
out

bald bald

soon soon

one hopes

on books

i must read more!
once i used to read more
when lucky,
a book per week
when OK,
two books a month
and of course there's always fluctuation
and variation, since each author
and each piece is different to read
but sadly
those avid-reading days are far gone!
i started slowing down
when enrolled the infamous
Deutschstunde
and no regrets there
'cause i learn a lot of German culture
auch einfach weil
Deutsch macht Spaß! ;)

then Summer
then heat
then Grand Canyon!!
(even less regrets!
i loved that trip)
and then just bare laziness lately
and some TV (yikes! hurts typing it)
all this been keeping me away from reading

and so on my lap
for soo many days i've been reading
these Anthony Bourdain's
Adventures on the Culinary Underbelly
Kitchen Confidential

and as much as i am loving
señor Bourdain's anecdotes in the kitchens
and his teachings in restaurant business
and rushed way of living... is not a book that should've
been taking me this long to get done with!
as much as i enjoy almost every page

therefore
i am disciplining myself
i will try to go back slowly
but sturdy into a book-per-month schedule
and in order to be able to start a new book in December
i must finish Kitchen Confidential in 13 days

two days ago i made this calculations
the total pages of the book is 312
i've read 178 already
which left me with 138 pages left to be read
divided among the amount of days left in November
15, then i must read 8.93 pages per day
i guess rounding, 9 pages per day

so far i am behind right now!!
instead of typing i should be reading...
procrastination?, ja!

rain, wine, and an afternoon with open-air organ

it rained all night
traces of rain on the
now-sunny morning

at it is 49°F (9°C) here!
too cold for a March in San Diego
still, meister Sun shows its face this morning

and to see meister Jackson Borges
playing the Organ at Spreckles Theater this afternoon

Jackson is my friend from die Deutschstunde!
he told us last class about this event
where he's the main organist
and the 3 Bach pieces on an open-air venue
at 2pm sound rather delightful!

last night found a red wine, that promises no headaches
Red Well 2006, a Californian table red wine
from Heartswork Winery
since reads sulfites-free
i don't believe any red wine can be
sulfite free a 100% but at least less sulfatoide i guess it is
i had a glass last night, and clear headed today
the flavor is cheerful and very light bodied
so it's easy to drink a little too much of it

oh strange days around here
some things are really slow
but time seems to be flowing so fast
i feel like staring at the world
from the sidewalk sometimes
without jumping into the rushing traffic hour
myself
things on-hold, yet feelings and movement
are not
