Nature | PBS is one of my favorite TV shows ever! This episode on Animal Reunions with the humans who took care of them will bring tears of joy.
Animals are amazing creatures, much more "civilized" than humans; they are all heart & emotion. We must learn from animals and we must protect them, not eat them, wear them and abuse them. Please be kind and respectful of all animals!

the new Sherlock
i haven't been so excited about a TV show
i think since i was a teenager
and since i was teenager too
i've been enamored & have been a big fan
of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's creation
Sherlock Holmes
really, i remember being 10 or 11 years old
and having to stay home sick with a cold
feverish and head-achy, but happy 'cause i would have
the chance to read Las Aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
[i read it in Spanish] instead of going to school
he's always been at the top of the all the mysteries
books i've read, he's always been my inspiration
for science and deduction
in a way, he has spoiled every man for me
'cause i've never found somebody as intelligent
nor dark but still righteous as he is
since long, i've been in love with Sherlock Holmes
and that's why these new series, of Sherlock
re-incarnated for the 21st century, had me a little nervous
sure! i was excited to see him again, on a new actor
but also i was afraid
through the years, i've suffered disappointments
regarding the actors playing Sherlock
probably the saddest, but expected horror
was the last Hollywood version of Sherlock with
Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock, i like Robert
but i HATED the movie, so far from what Sherlock really is
one of my most admired impersonations of Sherlock
has been by Jeremy Brett, he was brilliant as the
'old' Sherlock

an even older, but great too, was Basil Rathbone
a classy old image of Sherlock

but on the 'new 21st century' Sherlock
mister Benedict Cumberbatch is definitively
a joy to watch, he distills intelligence, logic,
freakishness, and a great deal of fun,
he's even funny!
the chemistry between him and Martin Freeman
as Dr. John Watson is something spectacular too
also i loved how the really important character
of Dr. Watson recovers his place on these series
in so many he has been overshadowed by Sherlock...
the adaptation of the plots to our times
is rather intelligent too, Sherlock, so fond
of telegrams on his days, now sends text messages on the phone
the carriages have been replaced by cabs
and instead of Sherlock deducing Watson's life
by watching his pocket watch, this time he analyzes
his cellphone
i truly enjoyed the show last night
it is fast paced, clever, super-clever i must say
the acting and settings are superb &...
it was a lot of fun!
like TV is supposed to be!

my new favorite TV show: Simon Schama's Power of Art
i've watched a couple of episodes
from the BBC series of Simon Schama's Power of Art
Bernini and Rembrandt episodes
on our blessed public television channel PBS
"Art is the enemy of the routine, the mechanical and the humdrum. It stops us in our tracks with a high voltage jolt of disturbance; it reminds us of what humanity can do beyond the daily grind. It takes us places we had never dreamed of going; it makes us look again at what we had taken for granted."

the first minutes of Bernini's "Ecstasy of St. Theresa" Episode
the episodes analyze a central piece by a given artist
and around this narrative, Simon unfolds their life story
Simon Schama wrote and narrates the series, his style is fresh
and even funny at times... as when he refers to Bernini
as... "...that bastard!", a relaxed and unique style
that makes every twist and turn of the narrative
a bit dramatic, it is almost like a watching a soup-opera
where the casts are Popes, painters, sculptures, all while learning
a lot about art history, and world history, too.
I learn a lot about Amsterdam on Rembrandt's episode
these two episodes... highly recommended!

recycle & don't kill, Earth day

14 Surprising Things You CAN Recycle

1. Appliances – Goodwill accepts working appliances or contact the Steel Recycling Institute to recycle them
2. Batteries (rechargeable and reusable) – visit www.batteryrecycling.com and find out how to dispose of yours
3. CDs/DVDs/Game Disks – refurbish scratched disks with www.auraltech.com
4. Compact fluorescent bulbs – You can take them to your local IKEA store for recycling.
5. Computers and electronics – many computer manufactures take back old computers to recycle for free
6. Eyeglasses – you can donate your used eyeglasses or call your local eye care chain to see if you can recycle them there
7. Foam packing – Call the Plastic Loose Fill Producers Council to find a drop-off site
8. Ink/toner Cartridges – www.recycleplace.com will pay for them or you can get them refilled at a reduced rate at most office supply stores
9. Oil – visit www.recycleoil.com to find out where you can recycle used motor oil
10. Sports equipment – try reselling, donating or trading it in at your local sporting good store
11. Toothbrushes and razors – visit www.recycleline.com

Wallander: high brow TV

I have seen only two episodes of Wallander
and I am hooked!
here the opening of the 1st episode I watched
Sidetracked
great darkish photography
great intriguing stories
great technoish music
and of course
superb acting: nothing less than Kenneth Branagh
i am a follower of PBS Masterpiece Mystery!
and this is probably one of their best series
(though i am a fan of Oxford's Inspector Lewis and his sidekick Hathaway too)
Wallander stories unfold in the town of Ystad, Sweden
and are based on the novels of author
Henning Mankell
if you have access to watch this series
give it a try
