comfort

mourning dove outside my house

after the heat wave
now dark gloomy days

maybe 'cause there are extra clouds
on the skies today, or
maybe 'cause not always
all love stories go too well

but today comfort calls my name
with this little song and
with this mourning dove
who comes to be fed
every morning of
every day

she cooing sings
I, seem to be repeating
after her
won't you come to comfort me?

with rocks in my dress
and smoke in my hair
I walked into a lake
to get some sleep down in there

won't you come to comfort me?
won't you come to comfort me?

With minnows in my belly
and deep in my veins
the breath-robbin' lightning
was making diamonds of rain

won't you come to comfort me?
won't you come to comfort me?

dreamed I was born on a mountain on the moon
Where nothing grows or ever rots
I dreamed that I had me a daughter
who was magnificent as a horse

won't you come to comfort me?
won't you come to comfort me?
won't you come to comfort me?
won't you come to comfort me?

Hallo Berenice,

Doves have a soothing look, somehow.

Here we have some Turkish turtle doves who eat grains on a stone table. And generally they are joinded by blue and great tits and a robin from time to time. Now when you see the huge doves compared with the tiny other ones, I am always saying "the truck is coming to get some food"

I listened to the song. Just tell me, is the first line a description of how the author wishes to commit suicide? Or do I get everything wrong, veery wrong?

hi herr Georg

yes! you got it, that's why i posted the photo of this dove with the word comfort... I do feed bird too outside my house, sometimes left-over bread and all of the time some wild bird grains mixture

and a family of 'plain small city birds' live in a bush next to my house, but also I get many visitors birds of other kind that I don't really know their names

but one I think is a Blue Jay, this somehow bigger beautiful bird that sings very bad ;) heh heh, he does a sound similar to crows, and every morning and every afternoon he comes and 'cries' outside my house for bread, he eats the seeds and grains too, but always asks for bread...

this little Dove that you see used to come with another dove like her, but lately is just one dove, i am afraid that the boyfriend/girlfriend got lost...

but anyway, yes! it's a pleasure to see and hear birds every morning

as for the Sparklehorse song, mmm? yeah now that you mentioned it does sound like an attempt of suicide, that idea of going into a lake with stones in your dress. so you might be right... i do love this song, it's mood and lyrics too, and remember, songs, like any other piece of poetry, can be so subjective!, at least i know the singer is not dead 'cause he keeps on producing albums, so definitively only a dark metaphor here he sings...

the favorite part for me of these lyrics is

"the breath-robbin' lightning
was making diamonds of rain"

danke herr Georg, and hoping you have a good Wochenende in your center of the world :)

Hiya Berenice & Herr Georg,
I love doves! We haven't got many of them here in East Village area, though... just the fat pigeons (with messed up legs), smart-alecky little fluffy sparrows and squawking seagulls.

I miss Missouri just for the variety of birds you see everyday there even in the cities. There was one orange-chested robin who would knock on the living room window every morning at 10AM looking for his bird feed. I think he even observed daylight saving time since he showed up at the same time all year round! X)

By the way... walking into a lake with stones in one's dress... Wasn't that exactly what Virginia Woolf did?

Cheerio and hope everyone's weekend has started well!

Smorgy :o)

hola mister Smorg

sorry for the tardiness on replies, I just enjoyed the wonderful weather we had over the weekend, a little cold but sunny, I love it when San Diego is like this... hope you had a wonderful weekend

as for the birds, yes! I think you don't get as many birds 'cause you are closer to the sea, in Normal Heights, apart from the morning doves, I get visits from Blue Jay's (I am not completely sure if they are blue jays, but they are these BIG birds that crow and are of a very pretty bright blue with white chests) also I get some birds that look like small city birds but they have red heads and red chests, and of course a good band of hummingbirds, along with gigantic crows... I think it's also the kind of seeds I've been feeding them that attract more varieties, so whenever you want to see more birds, just drive a little away from the ocean, come and visit us at Normal Heights!

take care and survive the Monday, that comes always with the Monday's blues ;)

the sun is finally coming out here in Clairmont Mesa, hope the marine layer around the ocean is letting you enjoy the sun!
