Welttag des Buches - World Book and Copyright Day

"Im Jahr 1995 hat die UNESCO den 23. April, den Todestag von Shakespeare und Cervantes, zum Welttag des Buches ausgerufen. Die Idee des Welttages geht auf eine alte Tradition in Katalonien zurück, wo an diesem Tag Buchstände auf den Straßen aufgebaut werden und rund um das Buch ein großes Fest gefeiert wird."
-from an article in Deutschlernen.net

"23 April: a symbolic date for world literature for on this date and in the same year of 1616, Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors such as Maurice Druon, K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. It was a natural choice for UNESCO's General Conference to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone, and in particular young people, to discover the pleasure of reading and gain a renewed respect for the irreplaceable contributions of those who have furthered the social and cultural progress of humanity."

Hallo Bere,

First I was very astonished to read such a big long text in German.

Well, you are certainly making progress and maybe in not so long time you will be able to read a nice old thriller in Deutsch.

As to Wallace and Gromit, it looks as if we are both fans of them. W. seems to be addicted to Gorgonzola.

Are you drinking beer in a China cup??

ha! Georg, so you figured out that I didn't write the long German text, huh? I just referred it and copied it... but yes! my reading skills in German are getting better, I still need to learn so many words and verbs!! the hardest part, however, and I guess like with learning any other languages, is to speak it! It's hard already to put together sentences by writing them down, but to trying to speak... mmm, I need so much more practice

and heh heh, no, the little tea cup is actually taken by the roots of a little plant that broke! i put them on water on top on the fridge (where this photo was taken) in the cup w/water to see if they recover...

i am just glad i didn't mistake the plant water with the delicious beer

Prost Georg und danke! :)
