wildfires in San Diego County

it has been two infernal days in North County
San Diego, yesterday there were 9 fires going on!
The high temperatures and low humidity are
the most dangerous combination to create fires
The Santa Ana winds conditions keep fueling
the fires, Santa Ana winds happen typically
in September and October, when it is fire season
it is only May but after years of drought
California is hot & dry
and there are global warming deniers out there!

  • NEW: The number of raging fires falls to eight, from three dozen overnight
  • NEW: A total of 9,987 acres are now scorched earth
  • NEW: A fire in San Marcos is now firefighters' No. 1 priority
  • Thousands are ordered to evacuate; schools across region close
tomorrow temperatures will start cooling off
and the winds will start coming from the shore instead
of coming from the East, we are hoping for some relief!

May 14, 2014 at some point there were 9 separate fires in the county!

Sorry Berenice, not related to the fires in your area.

I see on the right side of your blog that you are reading or intend to read J K Rowling's "A Casual Vacancy". Now, that interests me, because right now, I am reading the same book. Page 116!

Great book, strange book. Can't go through without stopping, from time to time, just to get a breather.

In the beginning, I had trouble to remember those 40 persons involved. So I downloaded a list (genealogical tree)and that helped a lot.

Especially Krystal and Terri is hard going.

Just tell me what you do think about the book. I would be very interested to hear about your views.

Herr Georg, I was really enjoying the book, love the gossip going on in the small town and really want to know what happens... but I sadly got interrupted from reading it :( I got busy, traveling to Mexico, etc. and since it is a HUGE book, it was hard to travel with it, so I started reading on my iPad mini Into The Woods by Tana French, a great thriller too btw...

but of course I will go back to "A Casual Vacancy" I got up to page 240 or so... and you are right Krystal and Terri story is probably the most explosive one, but each character, and there are plenty, seem to have many dirty little secrets... I love her writing style too, so clear, amongst the confusion of the small town gossip... Hope I can get back to it soon...

so glad to read you here!
