Mercy for Animals Paid-Per-View

I miss blogging, too much Facebook and Twitter.
But today I make time to write about "PPV"
Paid-Per-Views are events where
we pay people $1 to watch a 4 min. video about animal agriculture
Most people have no idea all the suffering the animals
go through to make it to our "plates"
After the video, we talk to people and encourage them
to follow an animal-free vegan diet.
Most people want to go vegan or at least cut
meat consumption after the video.

The past 2 weekends I have volunteer with the
Mercy for Animals team at 2 Lunar Festivals
in San Diego, the Vietnamese and the Chinese festivals.

Here some photos:
Nancy Wheeler, our wonderful organizer talking to people at the Vietnamese Lunar Festival

Simon from Germany talking to people at the Vietnamese Lunar Festival

Great to see some live hens and chickens, not in plates!

videographer

so for many days, this was my view
behind a video camera about 8hrs a day
a nice video camera though, so it was actually a lot of fun
I recorded sessions that took place at a conference
my company organizes yearly
some sessions were small, 10 to 25 persons in the room
but some other ones were in huge rooms!
like this one below... not sure of the count of participants
but i'd think at least a hundred...

and here some photos a co-worker captured
of me as a 'videographer'

i included this one with the reflection of the back
on the mirror, 'cause as July 03, i still had loooong hair
the photo is not so clear, but my hair covered
3/4 of my back... but July '03 came and...
i shopped it all off! heh heh so nice to have short hair again!
more on that on the next post...

tiempo y mar

Sonntag am Strand
Sunday at the beach
domingo en la playa

today i planned to just some errands
i suspected this morning that this Sunday
won't be a very fun day, i had to
go to the grocery store and get ready
for a very busy week ahead at work
clean the house, get the proper clothes ready
und so weiter und so fort...

and what a nice surprise always is
to find out that the store you are looking for
is close to the beach

i live about 8 miles
or 10 minutes from Ocean Beach
so no problem driving there
and why not? once you are there
is great just to walk to the pier
and stretch your tired feet
and walk under the sun, by the sea

& San Diego was lovely today!
breeze flowing, playing with my hair all day
sunny... but not so hot

here sharing my 360° view

and a registered encounter with

eine Glückliche Möwe
a happy seagull
una gaviota feliz

a lazy sunday

silent half-dead Sun
mumbling, a distant dog
peace and smells of life that has passed
a silent window
muted memories of a lost love
Sunday, a lazy one,
around my home

stormy friday

& its grayness a little my soul altered...
with its layers of melanchol-eesh gray-eeish
substances and the branches, scratching
the already-clouded skies
scratching, reaching
like we always want to reach for the sky

the gray, the melancholy
of a night that has melted
within the daylight...

try playing both little movies
and the song all at once
then repeat the movies
as the song is longer
and immerse yourself
in sound and gray

Jane Siberry With K.D. Lang

so on stormy friday nights
could be a good idea
as one cuddles, a song to listen so to scare
the windy demons away
calling all angels, with angels voices
themselves

across the universe

i wonder if this film
will be as good as the music they perform in it
it always a dubious matter
this film business
we'll have to wait and see

falling, yes i am falling
and she keeps on calling me
back again

there are givers and the are takers in this life
i think, i am a giver
rather to give than to take
and you?
are you a giver?
or a taker?

the YOUTUBE people are takers!
i gave them all my silly little videos
and they took them all away
for a couple of violations
mostly my Simpsons chunks and some
Wallace & Gromit ones
my YOUTUBE account has been
permanently disabled!

ALL the silly videos i had there
gone with the wind too...

in 63 days

i have this lovely project
& the time period set for completion
is 63 days
& with a smile
i start today the countdown
just another 62 days...

& i remember tonight one of my favorite damien rice songs
cannonball
beautiful lyrics for a beautiful song
(like me, of dreams not yet lived
and of life about to happen...)

there’s still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
there’s still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
it’s still a little hard to say what's going on

there’s still a little bit of your ghost your weakness
there’s still a little bit of your face i haven't kissed
you step a little closer each day
and I can´t see what´s going on

stones taught me to fly
love, it taught me to lie
life, it taught me to die
so it's not hard to fall
when you float like a cannonball

there’s still a little bit of your song in my ear
there’s still a little bit of your words i long to hear
you step a little closer to me
so close that I can´t see what´s going on

stones taught me to fly
love, it taught me to lie
life, it taught me to die
so it's not hard to fall
when you float like a cannon..
stones taught me to fly
and love taught me to cry
so come on courage
teach me to be shy
cause it's not hard to fall
and i don't wanna scare her
it's not hard to fall
and i don't wanna lose
it's not hard to grow
when you know that you just don't know

just a teaspoon... & a guitar

i can't believe what guitarist Hannes Coetzee
from South Africa does,
with just a teaspoon & a guitar!
south african old folk music
don't miss this clip!
watching him close & how
he creates the 'tea-spoonful' melody
magic & glad i found this little movie
you-tube might have its issues
but it is still a great source for this kind of lost wonderful stuff

el pajarito de Autlán

While I was in Autlán
This little bird felt from his nest

My mother has this beautiful garden
Visited every day by many birds
Therefore, she is used to this sort of accidents

She already has a shoe-box prepared to keep
Fallen birds warm
She made a hole all across the box
And she put a tree branch across it
And a piece of cloth to keep the little birds warm

For 2 days while I was there
She fed the bird with a paste made out of masa
(the corn dough for making tortillas) & water

around 3pm of the second day
and with the bright Autlán sun shinning high
we took the box with the bird
to the main garden
we left the box half open
specially since he was singing loud
after a couple of minutes
the mother appeared and after falling a couple of times
the little bird was able to follow her to the nest again

unfortunately I didn’t take a movie of that!
But here is the feeding process
And my mother, her kitchen
(watch the movie till the end for a full view)
And that beautiful memory of some bright
Days with a little bird in Autlán

los viejos tiempos

porque jaime siempre me los recuerda
& because sonic brings back
days of mexico city
subway & running, crowds
& then some green stops at parks
walking fast all the time
school, work, life
& sonic youth on my headphones, must of the time
or while driving in my car
& then i found a friend online, who lived in Monterrey
and liked Sonic Youth as well
[don't miss the destroyed room photo on their site!]
almost 10 years later, we are still friends online

here Silver Rocket
Sonic Youth, love that they recorded this video live
look closer at the playing of those guitars
and Thurston singing breaking voice sometimes

& 10 minutos 35 segundos de La Ciudad de México

a great short visual documentary on México City

with a nice musical selection for soundtrack
thanks to roddelcampo from youtube for this work
and yes México City feels like this many times...
Beto?

I lived there 32 years out of 37, I haven't been back since 2001
this short film style is very similar to the Qatsi Trilogy
all with music by Philip Glass

life-changing films!
please watch, as mr. monk would say
you'll thank me later...

5'25" of hitchcock & stewart (& 7' 54" of bart)

1. oh I indulge! with pointless watching of a scene of Rear Window click to indulge too!

2. kundalini exercise, standing up, flex your upper body as trying to reach your toes, then start laughing, yes! laughing, from your stomach, when you realize, you are actually laughing! and loud... hold the laugh & position for 3 minutes... relief, ah!

43. I remember another book I read (lately) - The Catcher in the Rye, J. D. Salinger

and here another 7'54" of my favorite version of Rear Window, don't miss this one!
