Beethoven, Buddha, and my mom

i've been a bit disconnected from the blog, the internet, etc.
my mom is visiting!
shortly after her arrival, we went to the Copley Symphony Hall
for a Beethoven Festival Piano concert
the program was Beethoven's
Coriolan Overture, Op.62, the Piano Concertos No. 1 and No. 2
it was a lovely evening indeed
although the pianist Yefim Bronfman was replaced by Orli Shaham
she did a good job, but i was looking forward to listen to Yefim
as he has great reviews
also was sad to miss mister Smorgthere
as we planned to meet him at the concert...
hopefully i can meet him soon!

The Buddha made it clear that the detachment of a noble disciple (ariyasaavaka) — the detachment connected with the path — was not essentially a physical act of withdrawal, let alone austerity. Kaaya-viveka was valuable only if seen as a means to the inner purging and mental transformation connected with the destruction of craving. This is illustrated in the Udumbarika Siihanaada Sutta in which the Buddha claims that the asceticism of a recluse who clings to solitude could lead to pride, carelessness, attention-seeking, and hypocrisy, if not linked to the cultivation of moral virtues and the effort to gain insight through meditation.

a Buddha quote after all
and he is one of the 7 mystic ones
along with Hermes Trismegisto, creator of El Kybalion
and Corpus Hermeticum
and the Hermeticism philosophy
but now i am getting into the dark side
let's go back to Buddha's bright one
he said:

Cultivate a friend whose ways are seven:
1. He gives what is hard to give
2. does what is hard to do
3. bears what is hard to bear
4. he confesses his own secrets and keeps your secrets.
5. in times of trouble he does not forsake you, ...
