“There’s a schizoid quality to our relationship with animals,
in which sentiment and brutality exist side by side. Half the dogs in America
will receive Christmas presents this year, yet few of us pause to consider
the miserable life of the pig – an animal easily as intelligent as a dog
– that becomes the Christmas ham.”

One of the biggest issues I have seen of late is the variance in urban to rural lifestyles. With Denny's / Burger King / McDonald's, etc, pushing so much 'cheap' meat on the consumer it is hard to break the habit. Having moved to a rural area where franchises are few and far between, the urge to eat meat all the time is greatly reduced.
I advocate eating meat, but only if you kill and dress it yourself, which 99% of the populace would never do.
hi Bruce,
thank you for your comment. I used to vacation as a child in rural Mexico, my aunt had chickens, cows, goats, even though he ate them, he also treated them as pets while they were alive... Although I do not advocate meat eating or using animals in any way, I see your point of view and respect it. The slaughter is just a moment, a terrible one, but it doesn't compare with a lifetime of suffering on a farming factory to satisfy that created need you cleverly mention on the cities. People are so disconnected from where they meat comes from, they receive these cooked pieces of meat, or buy at the supermarket some wrapped-in-plastic product, that they seem to forget that these were once live beings.
Thanks for stopping by!
