So were Virginia Woolf, D.H. Lawrence, James Joyce, Thomas Moore, Edith Wharton, Jane Austin, Ayn Rand, Kurt Vonnegut, and Toni Morrison (who could actually make it) et al opening for Sonic Youth?
It's been a while since I've seen them--though I've seen Thurston Moore twice in the past year, once playing with a mostly acoustic (though sounding way different from what one generally thinks of as acoustic--acoustic with pedals and feedback) band playing mostly pretty mainstream songs from his most recent solo album (which is pretty good) and the other time with this free noise musician from Sweden playing...some really intense free noise. Fun stuff.
Anyway, hope you'll give a full review of the SY show...
and yes herr Thilolito and herr Georg, it was a loud but great night
Dr. Jay! i am not a great reviewer, but the poster was indeed great, so the little concert, sadly, i arrived late, but since i arrived alone and i am short and shameless, i was able to walk really close to the stage! the concert was mostly music from their latest album The Eternal, and many songs from Daydream Nation, since they re-released Daydream Nation not long ago, they played lots of tracks from it, it was great to see them that close!
as for Thurston Moore, i love his solo albums, i haven't listened much to Trees Outside the Academy, i need to listen to it more...
BUT Psychic Hearts, well, i know that album better than the palm of my dirty hand ;) is one of my favorite albums of ALL times! i love every single track
and yes, i know what you mean with mellow noise and feedback... have you ever listened to those SYR Sonic Youth Records? i have one called Silver Sessions, nothing but feedback, funny how people like you & me can find that noise soothing, huh?
salutes to Philadelphia, France, and Bielefeld from warm San Diego, it is still like the summer here, sorry! heh heh
